Voices of Eastern Market

In preparation for the June 26, 2009, reopening of Eastern Market, the Overbeck Project interviewed people from many groups associated with the Market. The people we've already interviewed are listed below. Completed transcripts can be accessed from this page.

As of February, 2016, online access to Langley Bowers' Eastern Market: The Rebuilding is available. The 20 minute video retells the stories of the 2007 Market fire, in the words of vendors, neighbors, and the people involved with the rebuilding. Many of the people listed on this page were also interviewed for the video, which includes original footage of the fire, old and new photos of the Market, and scenes from the Market's June 26, 2009, grand re-opening ceremony. Jazz piano by Ian Walters underscores the drama of the story.

The Overbeck Project continues to add entries to this page whenever we post a transcript with strong Eastern Market connections.
